International Paper announced on Thursday that it will close its Carrollton South packaging facility in Carrollton, Texas, by the end of the third quarter, affecting more than 60 employees. The Memphis-based packaging manufacturer attributed the closure to a strategic effort to realign its manufacturing operations with customer demand and enhance long-term competitiveness.

The Carrollton South plant, located at 1655 S. Interstate 35 East, will discontinue operations as part of a broader restructuring initiative within the company. A total of 64 employees are expected to be laid off, although a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) notice has not yet appeared in the state’s database. International Paper stated that affected workers will receive severance packages, continued benefits, and outplacement support during the transition.

“Decisions that affect our people and our communities are never made lightly,” said Keith Townsend, an International Paper executive, in an official statement. Townsend added that International Paper remains committed to supporting its employees in Carrollton and that customers served by the facility will be redirected to other company locations in the region.

This closure is part of a larger wave of reductions across International Paper’s operations. According to industry reports, more than 5,800 employees have been impacted by plant closures since October 2024. The company’s annual revenue declined from $21.2 billion in 2022 to $15.8 billion in 2024, but showed signs of recovery in 2025 under the leadership of new CEO Andrew Silvernail.

The Carrollton site holds an assessed value exceeding $10 million, according to recent records from the Dallas Central Appraisal District. International Paper has owned the property since 1990, based on public deeds.

The company has not disclosed detailed plans for the future use or disposition of the Carrollton property following the closure.
