The International Team took a commanding 7-3 lead over the United States after a dominant performance in the Friday foursomes session at the Presidents Cup, held at Medinah Country Club’s Course No. 3 near Chicago. Under the leadership of captain Geoff Ogilvy, the Internationals won all five alternate-shot matches, overturning their one-point deficit from the opening day.

The strong showing by the International side quieted the home crowd as they moved closer to securing their first Presidents Cup victory since 1998. The United States, which has won the tournament 11 consecutive times, now faces a significant challenge to reclaim momentum with 20 points still available over the final two days of competition.

The sweep by the Internationals mirrored a similar comeback during the 2024 Presidents Cup at Royal Montreal, where they also rebounded from an initial 5-0 loss to win the second-day foursomes session by the same margin.

“We loved how we played yesterday. But we just wanted to come win the session. The team were all in a really good frame of mind, but you would never imagine doing five sets,” Ogilvy said. “We did it in Montreal, so maybe it’s a pattern now.”

As the event moves forward, the United States will need to regroup and mount a response to prevent the International Team from further extending their lead and potentially ending the longstanding dominance of American players in this biennial golf competition.
