Interpol has joined efforts to locate Michael Hewitt, a 65-year-old England football fan reported missing after traveling through Europe on his way to the World Cup in the United States. Hewitt, who left his home in Leeds on June 20, was last confirmed to be in Barcelona, Spain, on June 21. Since then, there has been no contact, and it remains unclear whether he reached the United States for the match between England and Ghana.
Hewitt, a retired trade union official, was travelling to attend the World Cup as a late decision, having long followed Leeds United football club internationally. His brother, Gary Hewitt, expressed concern over the situation, noting the uncertainty surrounding Michael’s whereabouts and emphasising the family’s growing worry.
Authorities have escalated the search by involving Interpol, signalling the cross-border nature of the inquiry. Details about Hewitt’s movements before and after Barcelona remain limited, and officials continue to cooperate with law enforcement in Spain, the United States, and the United Kingdom to locate him.
The investigation is ongoing, with family and officials appealing for any information that might assist in finding Hewitt, who is also known by the nickname “Little Mick.”
