Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Mariam, the first wife of lawmaker Gazi Nazrul, following her body’s recovery from a flat at the NAM Bhaban complex. The incident came to light after the Tejgaon Detective Branch (DB) took over the case from Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on Monday.

Mariam’s father, SM Masum Billah, formally filed a case against Gazi, Maksuda, and Mariam’s maternal uncle, Obaidur Rahman, alleging abetment of suicide. On the same day, a court granted a four-day remand for Gazi and a one-day remand for Maksuda to facilitate further questioning related to the case.

During the ongoing investigations, Gazi reportedly told authorities that Mariam had become distressed after private video clips involving the couple were leaked and circulated on social media platforms. He also denied any family disputes contributing to the incident. According to officials involved in the inquiry, Gazi maintained composure throughout his interrogation, while Maksuda appeared visibly upset. Both denied the accusations of physically assaulting Mariam.

The Detective Branch is continuing to gather evidence and question those involved to determine the exact circumstances leading to Mariam’s death. No further details have been released by law enforcement as the inquiry remains active.
