Marriott International Inc and IOI Properties Group Bhd (IOIPG) have entered into a strategic partnership to develop four new hotels across Malaysia, adding a total of 888 rooms to Marriott’s luxury and select-service offerings in the country. The developments will include The Ritz-Carlton in Putrajaya, W Langkawi, Aloft by Marriott Sepang, and Aloft by Marriott Johor Baru Plentong.
This expansion marks a continuation of the long-standing collaboration between Marriott and IOIPG, aimed at strengthening their presence in Malaysia’s growing hospitality sector. Marriott International’s president for Asia Pacific, excluding China, Rajeev Menon, identified Malaysia as a key market for the company’s growth strategy, emphasizing the shared confidence in the country’s long-term potential.
“Our long-standing relationship with IOIPG has enabled us to expand our portfolio across a diverse range of brands and destinations,” Menon said. He added that these new projects are representative of Marriott’s commitment to working with trusted partners to deliver brands and experiences tailored to fast-growing destinations in Malaysia.
IOIPG’s group chief executive officer, Datuk Lee Yeow Seng, noted that the partnership supports the company’s broader vision of creating integrated developments that contribute socio-economic value to local communities. This latest agreement will bring the total number of hotels owned by IOIPG and managed by Marriott to 15, solidifying the group’s role as a significant player in Malaysia’s hospitality market.
The collaboration between Marriott and IOIPG underscores a mutual focus on leveraging Malaysia’s tourism potential by offering diversified accommodation options ranging from luxury to select-service hotels. The new properties are expected to enhance the availability of internationally branded hotels in key urban and resort destinations throughout the country, responding to increasing demand from both domestic and international travelers.
