Iran’s men’s national volleyball team captain Amin Esmaeilnezhad has expressed strong confidence in the team’s chances of qualifying for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, despite skepticism among fans. Speaking on a televised program hosted by Iran’s state-run broadcaster, Esmaeilnezhad appeared alongside Milad Taghavi, president of the Iranian Volleyball Federation, on the show “Olympic Village.”
During the broadcast, a viewer poll revealed widespread doubt about Iran’s prospects, with nearly 85 percent of respondents expressing the belief that the team would not secure a spot at the Los Angeles Games. In contrast to the prevailing public sentiment, Esmaeilnezhad delivered a firm and unequivocal response when asked if Iran would qualify, replying simply: “Yes.” He reinforced this commitment by stating, “We will go to the Olympics.”
The remarks by the team captain come as Iran continues preparations for the upcoming Olympic qualification cycle. Although the path to Los Angeles presents significant challenges, Esmaeilnezhad’s declaration signals a determined ambition within the Iranian volleyball program to return to the Olympic stage and compete at the highest level internationally.
This stance underscores the team’s focus on overcoming obstacles and asserting itself among the world’s elite volleyball nations as they aim for a successful qualification campaign ahead of the 2028 Games.
