The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) has expressed its readiness to send rescue teams and humanitarian aid to Venezuela following a pair of powerful earthquakes that struck the country’s north-central region on June 24. The quakes, registering magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5, are among the strongest to hit Venezuela in over a century, causing widespread damage and casualties.

In a message addressed to Luis Manuel Farias Villanueva, head of the Venezuelan Red Cross Society, IRCS chief Pirhossein Kolivand conveyed condolences to those affected and reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to providing relief. He highlighted the extensive destruction in several Venezuelan states—including La Guaira, Carabobo, Miranda, Aragua, and Falcón—and noted that major cities such as Caracas, Valencia, Maracay, and Morón also suffered significant damage to homes and infrastructure.

The earthquakes have resulted in at least 235 fatalities and over 4,300 injuries, with the highest number of casualties reported in La Guaira’s northern coastal region, according to Venezuela’s health ministry. The powerful tremors caused buildings to collapse, disrupted power supplies, and impaired hospital operations, prompting the Venezuelan government to declare a state of emergency. Search and rescue operations remain ongoing as officials work to assess the full extent of the damage.

Iranian government officials have expressed solidarity with Venezuela in the aftermath of the disaster. President Masoud Pezeshkian sent a message of sympathy to acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez, emphasizing Iran’s willingness to provide emergency medical equipment, relief supplies, and support personnel. Similarly, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi offered condolences via his social media account, affirming Iran’s readiness to assist and wishing a swift recovery for the injured.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei also reiterated Iran’s sympathy and readiness to contribute to relief and rescue efforts. The statements from Iranian officials underscore Tehran’s intent to collaborate with Venezuelan authorities in addressing the humanitarian challenges posed by the earthquakes.

The events have underscored the vulnerability of Venezuela’s infrastructure and emergency response systems to major natural disasters.
