The Iran Gas Transmission Company has enhanced its gas transmission capacity ahead of the upcoming winter season, according to Peyman Khezraei, the company’s CEO. The improvements come through the commissioning of new pipeline sections and the activation of additional pressure boosting stations, aimed at ensuring a stable supply during peak demand periods.

Khezraei emphasized that the primary objective is to maintain network stability and full operational readiness throughout the winter months, as the company plays a critical role in transporting natural gas from southern production sites to consumption centers in northern, northeastern, and central regions. He stressed the importance of maximizing the transmission of produced gas to avoid wastage due to infrastructure limitations.

Despite a reduction in part of the country’s sweet gas production caused by damage to South Pars refineries, the company has developed alternative scenarios to manage gas flows effectively, prioritizing household consumers. Although the Iran Gas Transmission Company is not responsible for increasing production, it oversees a widespread high-pressure pipeline network designed for flexibility and continuity, enabling rapid reconfigurations to meet changing demands.

Reflecting on last winter’s operations, Khezraei highlighted the successful management of a rise in household consumption through 55 operational network adjustments across the country and around-the-clock deployment of staff, including in remote areas. Anticipating more challenging conditions this winter, the company plans to increase operational interventions to ensure uninterrupted gas supply.

Additionally, Khezraei announced the operational independence of Gas Transmission Region 11, covering Sistan-Baluchestan province. With its expansive geography and growing industrial and consumer base—particularly around Chabahar—this new regional management is expected to enhance network oversight and accelerate development efforts in the area.

Alongside expanding pipeline infrastructure, including the recent commissioning of a section of the ninth nationwide pipeline and the upcoming activation of the second phase of a key transmission line to eastern provinces, the company has brought several new pressure boosting stations online. These additions collectively contribute to a higher transmission capacity compared to the previous year.

In terms of maintenance, the company has adopted advanced repair techniques that allow servicing without interrupting gas flow or venting gas into the environment, resulting in improved operational efficiency and reduced waste. Furthermore, energy management initiatives are being implemented across transmission facilities. Approximately 2.5 megawatts of distributed solar power capacity currently supports pressure boosting stations, as part of a wider strategy to utilize renewable energy sources, reduce conventional energy consumption, and promote sustainability.

By integrating infrastructure upgrades with operational innovations and renewable energy use, the Iran Gas Transmission Company aims to ensure reliable and efficient gas delivery to consumers nationwide during one of the most demanding periods of the year.
