The Executive Committee of the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation has approved Iraq’s request to host the 28th edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup. The decision was made during a meeting held on the sidelines of the ongoing 27th Gulf Cup in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and marks the first time Iraq will host the prominent regional football tournament.

The meeting, chaired by Gulf Football Federation President Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, reviewed the hosting bids submitted by member associations. Iraq was the sole bidder for the event, leading to unanimous approval by the Executive Committee. Following the decision, the Iraqi Football Association is required to designate the host city and fulfill the necessary organizational requirements and procedures in accordance with the Federation’s standards and regulations.

The Gulf Football Federation highlighted that this approval aligns with its broader objective to enhance cooperation and coordination among member national federations, improve the Gulf tournament system, and support the successful hosting and management of regional competitions. Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, reiterating his leadership role, expressed continued support for FIFA President Gianni Infantino, pledging to maintain this backing during the upcoming period.
