An Irish government aircraft has been dispatched to Dubai to facilitate the extradition of Daniel Kinahan, a boxing promoter and alleged leader of the Kinahan crime group. Kinahan was arrested in the United Arab Emirates in April, where he had been residing.

Kinahan, who is in his late 40s, has been identified by the High Court in Dublin as a senior figure within an organized crime network engaged in international drug trafficking and firearms offenses. The Kinahan cartel has been at the center of a violent feud with a rival gang in Ireland since 2015, a conflict that has resulted in 18 fatalities over the years.

The violent nature of the Kinahan cartel’s activities has drawn significant law enforcement attention. In 2016, Kinahan survived an assassination attempt during a boxing weigh-in at the Regency Hotel in Dublin. Additionally, in 2022, U.S. authorities placed a $5 million reward on his capture, underlining the international implications of his alleged criminal involvement.

The extradition efforts by the Irish government signal a continuation of the efforts to bring Kinahan to justice, amid ongoing concerns over organized crime and cross-border criminal activity linked to the group. Discussions about the exact timeline for his return have not been publicly disclosed.
