LAUREL, Md. — The 2026 Preakness Stakes is shaping up as one of the most open and unpredictable runnings in recent memory, with Iron Honor entering as a slim favorite at 9-2 odds following Monday’s post position draw. The absence of Kentucky Derby winner Golden Tempo, who is not participating in the second leg of the Triple Crown, has left the field wide open, featuring 14 horses with several strong contenders.

Among the front-runners on the morning line are Taj Mahal, Chip Honcho, and Incredibolt, each listed at 5-1 odds, along with Ocelli at 6-1. Napoleon Solo, at 8-1, is another notable challenger, with his trainer Chad Summers confident about his chances. Summers pointed to a previous victory over Iron Honor to bolster his horse’s prospects.

“I feel it’s the right opportunity with the right field,” Summers said, referencing the fact that Napoleon Solo finished ahead of Iron Honor in the Wood Memorial, where he placed fifth while Iron Honor came in seventh. Iron Honor, however, claimed the Gotham Stakes earlier this year, adding to his credentials.

With Golden Tempo sidelined, the Preakness is racing without a clear dominant favorite. The diverse field and absence of a Triple Crown contender have prompted speculation that this edition could be one of the most wide open in the race’s history. Saturday’s race at Laurel Park is anticipated with interest from both racing enthusiasts and bettors, as any number of the entrants could emerge as the winner once the gates open.
