Qatar is set to host its first Ironman 70.3 triathlon in March 2027, an event that aims to bolster the country’s standing as a hub for international sports tourism. Visit Qatar announced that the inaugural Ironman 70.3 Doha will take place from March 18 to 20 at Old Doha Port, highlighting the nation’s ongoing efforts to expand its portfolio of major sporting events.

The event, organized in partnership with The Ironman Group, renowned globally for endurance sports competitions, will feature the signature 70.3 race format on the final day. Scheduled for March 20, the race will consist of a 1.9-kilometer swim, a 90-kilometer cycling course, and a 21.1-kilometer run. In addition to the main race, the program will include an Ironkids race on March 19, designed to engage younger athletes and encourage community participation.

Officials expect the event to draw thousands of athletes and visitors from the region and beyond, contributing to Qatar’s economy by attracting tourism and further establishing the country as a destination capable of hosting large-scale international sporting events. The triathlon weekend will also feature interactive fan zones, including an Ironman Village, alongside various entertainment and community activities aimed at enhancing the visitor experience.

Visit Qatar indicated that more detailed information about athlete registration, spectator arrangements, and tailored travel packages for participants and their families will be released in the weeks ahead through official channels.

By staging the Ironman 70.3 at Old Doha Port, Qatar will showcase its developed infrastructure and hospitality services, reinforcing its capacity to manage complex, large-scale events. This addition to the sports calendar aligns with the country’s strategic ambitions to grow its sports tourism sector and diversify its international sporting offerings.
