Some performers, like Avery Wilson, liken pitch correction to a “bowling lane bumper,” implying it keeps singers safe from vocal mistakes but potentially stifles spontaneity. The reluctance to embrace unprocessed vocals is also reflected in industry practices. For instance, NPR’s Tiny Desk concert series prohibits audio effects like Auto-Tune, leading some artists to decline participation.
