The Israeli military on Wednesday accused Hezbollah of violating a ceasefire in southern Lebanon by launching a drone attack targeting an Israeli vehicle. The incident occurred within a roughly 10-kilometer-wide area inside southern Lebanon where Israeli forces maintain operations near the Israel-Lebanon border.

The confrontation comes amid efforts brokered by the United States to stabilize the volatile border region. Under a newly signed agreement last month, the Lebanese army is expected to disarm Hezbollah and take full control of designated “pilot zones,” prompting the phased withdrawal of Israeli troops from those areas.

This accord follows a period of heightened conflict that began in early March when Hezbollah fired rockets toward Israel in support of Iran, drawing Lebanon into the broader Middle East hostilities. Israel responded with significant airstrikes and a ground incursion. Since the implementation of a preliminary US-Iran deal and the Lebanon-Israel agreement, violence has reportedly lessened, although sporadic clashes continue.

Despite the ceasefire framework, Lebanon’s military criticized ongoing Israeli military actions on Sunday, stating that these operations were obstructing the Lebanese army’s full deployment as outlined in the agreement. Additionally, Lebanon has reported intermittent Israeli strikes and artillery fire along its southern frontier since the truce was signed.

The situation underscores persistent tensions in a region where efforts to achieve lasting peace face challenges amid competing security concerns and political dynamics involving Hezbollah, Israel, Lebanon’s government forces, and external actors.
