Israeli forces conducted a large-scale operation in the West Bank town of Biddu on Monday, detaining dozens of Palestinians following the fatal shooting of an Israeli settler the previous day. The shooting took place near the Israeli settlement of Neveh Tzuf, located north of Ramallah, on the eve of the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur.

The suspected shooter, a Palestinian man, was apprehended after being found at a hospital. Following his arrest, Israeli troops raided the home of the attacker’s family in Biddu, which lies northwest of Jerusalem in the occupied West Bank.

According to the Jerusalem Governorate, which administers Palestinian municipal authorities in the area, the raid began at dawn and targeted numerous young men for arrest. The governorate reported that the operation included extensive searches, property damage, and physical assaults on some residents. The military presence in the village was described as ongoing during the time of the report.

Nazmi Mansour, the mayor of Biddu, described the military incursion as involving “dozens of military jeeps and hundreds of soldiers” who entered the town after midnight. He said soldiers conducted house-to-house searches and established field interrogation centers in buildings seized during the raid. According to Mansour, the Israeli army was still present in the town, which remained sealed off with all commercial shops closed.

Israeli military officials did not provide further details beyond confirming the raid on the attacker’s family home. Palestinian officials and local residents emphasized the scale of arrests and reported significant damage and confrontations during the operation. The incident comes amid ongoing tensions and frequent clashes in the West Bank between Israeli forces and Palestinians.
