Israeli forces carried out multiple strikes in the Gaza Strip on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of at least nine Palestinians, including children and an Al Jazeera journalist, amid ongoing tensions despite a ceasefire agreement. The strikes occurred in several locations across the enclave, including Gaza City, Beit Lahiya, Khan Younis, and the Bureij refugee camp.

According to Palestinian health officials, an early morning airstrike targeted an apartment building in Gaza City's Sabra neighborhood, killing four people, among them two women and a child. Additional gunfire in Beit Lahiya resulted in the death of a woman, while an airstrike in Khan Younis wounded eight and killed at least one person. Later in the day, an airstrike in the Bureij refugee camp killed three individuals, including Ahmed Wishah, a cameraman working for Al Jazeera. His death came roughly two months after his brother, also an Al Jazeera journalist, was killed in a similar incident.

The Palestinian Journalist Syndicate condemned the killing of Wishah and called for accountability from Israeli authorities, noting that nearly 300 Palestinian journalists have been killed during the conflict since it began in October 2023. Al Jazeera disputed Israeli military claims that Wishah was affiliated with Hamas, describing such allegations as unfounded and part of a pattern used to justify attacks on its staff.

The Israeli military acknowledged conducting strikes against individuals they identified as militants posing a threat, including asserting that Wishah was involved with Hamas’ military wing. Israel stated that it targets Hamas operatives and militants who threaten its forces.

The fighting in Gaza follows a ceasefire that went into effect on October 10, 2025, aimed at halting large-scale hostilities between Israel and Hamas. Despite this, both sides report frequent violations. The Gaza health ministry has documented over 1,000 Palestinian deaths since the ceasefire, with women and children comprising a significant portion of the toll. Israeli military casualties during the same period stand at five.

The broader conflict has its roots in the October 7, 2023, raid by Hamas-led militants into southern Israel, resulting in the deaths of approximately 1,200 Israelis and the capture of over 250 hostages, according to Israeli sources. Israel’s subsequent military campaign in Gaza has led to tens of thousands of Palestinian casualties.

Efforts to reach a permanent peace agreement have stagnated, with Israel insisting on Hamas’s disarmament and removal from governance in Gaza, while Hamas conditions any disarmament on political negotiations toward establishing a Palestinian state. The situation remains volatile as ceasefire violations and reciprocal attacks continue to affect civilians in the region.
