At least six Palestinians were killed in the Gaza Strip on Monday amid ongoing Israeli military activity, health officials reported, as international mediators sought to revive a fragile ceasefire agreement. Medics stated that an Israeli airstrike near Al-Yeman Al-Saeed Hospital in the Jabalia refugee camp, located in northern Gaza, was responsible for the deaths of four individuals. Two additional fatalities occurred in separate shooting incidents in Khan Younis in the south and Gaza City.
The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the reported strikes. These incidents took place as diplomatic efforts intensified, with representatives from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey concluding a week of negotiations with Hamas and other Palestinian factions. The discussions focused on implementing the second phase of a U.S.-brokered plan originally proposed by former President Donald Trump, which envisions Hamas disarming and Israeli forces withdrawing from the enclave.
An earlier truce, brokered in October 2025, has failed to fully halt Israeli airstrikes or achieve the disarmament of Hamas. According to Palestinian health officials, Israeli strikes in Gaza have resulted in the deaths of over 950 Palestinians since the truce took effect. Conversely, Israel reports that four of its soldiers have been killed by militants during the same period. Hamas attributes the ongoing violence to Israel’s failure to meet obligations agreed upon in the first phase of the truce, which succeeded in reducing large-scale fighting but did not stop all military actions. Israel maintains that its strikes aim to disrupt imminent threats posed by Hamas and other militant groups.
On Monday, Hamas and allied Palestinian factions submitted a written response to a 15-point framework outlined by the mediators and the U.S.-established Board of Peace. While details of the response were not disclosed, sources familiar with the discussions indicated that the factions had accepted 14 of the 15 points. The main area of contention remains Hamas’s disarmament, which the group ties to the initiation of a political process toward the recognition of a Palestinian state. Israel, however, insists that Hamas must fully disarm, relinquish control over Gaza, and be excluded from any future governance of the territory.
