YOUWROTEUPONIT, a five-year-old gelding by Wrote out of Told You So, continues to show mixed form in recent race outings. With career earnings nearing $47,000, the New Zealand-bred runner has demonstrated capability over distances ranging from 1,200 to 1,600 meters.
The horse’s recent performances at Grafton have been a blend of promise and inconsistency. On July 5, YOUWROTEUPONIT finished 17th in a Class 3 race over 1,115 meters on a soft track, trailing by 1.6 lengths behind the winner. Earlier races at Grafton yielded a stronger result, including a third-place finish in a Country Boosted Benchmark 58 event, where he closed well late in the race.
Although showing a capacity to finish strongly, YOUWROTEUPONIT has yet to break through at higher levels or distance ranges beyond 1,600 meters. His recent form line includes a win, second, and third-place finishes scattered across six starts this season, with a winning strike rate of 20% and placing in 20% of runs overall.
Trainer Cassandra Schmidt has noted that while YOUWROTEUPONIT remains in good condition and has recently been freshened, the gelding has generally performed best when midfield rather than in front-running positions. His attempts in the Showcase Handicap (Class 2) at Grafton have seen him restricted to midfield placements, and connections do not currently rate him as a leading contender for upcoming races at this level.
Despite the challenges, YOUWROTEUPONIT’s consistency over certain trips and conditions—particularly over shorter distances—suggests he may remain competitive in races of similar stature, provided he can maintain his fitness and form. Currently rated at 59, the gelding is expected to continue contesting mid-tier country events with the potential for minor placings rather than outright victories in higher-grade handicaps.
