A man was arrested following a stabbing incident in broad daylight in Sydney’s western suburb of Lalor Park on Monday. Emergency services were called to a location outside shops on Commercial Road at approximately 11:50 a.m. after reports of an assault.

According to witnesses, the incident involved two men aged 53 and 38 who were seen confronting each other near outdoor tables and chairs. The two appeared to exchange words before the older man attempted to distance himself from the younger individual. It was during this moment that the 53-year-old was allegedly stabbed multiple times.

One bystander described the attack as sudden and swift, noting that another person intervened by pulling the victim into a nearby shop to remove him from the attacker. The assailant reportedly then walked away from the scene into a nearby residential complex.

Paramedics from NSW Ambulance attended to the victim at the site before transporting him to Westmead Hospital, where he remained in serious but stable condition as of Tuesday evening.

Authorities conducted a search of the nearby unit complex and apprehended the 38-year-old suspect around 12:50 p.m. The man was taken into custody at Blacktown Police Station; however, no formal charges had been filed by the evening of the incident.

Police have stated that the stabbing is not linked to any criminal gang activity and are appealing to the public for assistance. Individuals with CCTV footage, dashcam recordings, or mobile phone videos related to the event have been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement officials continue to gather information.
