Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto has extended an offer to former Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov to join his team as an adviser following Fedorov’s recent dismissal from the Ukrainian government. The proposal came in a phone call Crosetto made to Fedorov shortly after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky replaced him.

In an interview published Saturday with the Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Crosetto described Fedorov as "an exceptionally innovative politician" and said the invitation was both a professional gesture and a personal show of support. “He was touched and understood that this was a sign of my appreciation and friendship,” Crosetto said.

The Italian defense chief did not provide specific details about the advisory position but confirmed that he welcomed Fedorov’s expertise and insight, which could contribute to ongoing efforts to support Ukraine amid its conflict with Russia. Italy has been a consistent supporter of Ukraine since the Russian invasion began more than four years ago, and Crosetto emphasized continued assistance by announcing plans for additional arms deliveries to Ukraine.

Crosetto, a prominent member of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s right-wing Brothers of Italy party, highlighted Italy’s commitment to aiding Kiev in its defense against Moscow’s aggression. The offer to Fedorov underscores Italy’s diplomatic engagement and willingness to deepen collaboration with Ukrainian officials, even outside formal government channels.

Fedorov’s dismissal from the Ukrainian cabinet drew international attention, with limited official explanation from Kyiv.
