The King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture, known as Ithra, is participating in Milan Design Week 2026, running through April 26 in Italy. This marks the center’s fourth consecutive year collaborating with the Isola Design Festival as part of its broader engagement with the international design community.

Ithra is showcasing its rebranded flagship event, Ithra Design Week (formerly Tanween), under the theme "Beyond the Ordinary." This exhibition represents the first major physical presentation of Ithra Design Week as a regional platform aimed at promoting designers from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The initiative seeks to foster creative exchange and provide global audiences with insights into the cultural narratives shaping contemporary design in the Arab world.

The "Beyond the Ordinary" exhibition features works by eight designers from across the MENA region and includes seven interactive stations designed to engage visitors. Utilizing artificial intelligence, the exhibition gathers data on visitor interactions to produce a dynamic map that illustrates how cognitive processes are influenced by diverse cultural backgrounds.

Noura Al-Zamil, Ithra Programs Manager, underlined the significance of the center’s presence at Milan Design Week, describing it as an important venue for promoting creative talent and expanding cultural dialogue. She noted that Ithra’s participation supports the growth of the creative economy both regionally and internationally. Al-Zamil also highlighted the role of Ithra Design Week 2026 in advancing Arab design and underscored the event’s ability to draw the attention of designers across the Middle East.

By combining innovative technology with regional creativity, Ithra aims to broaden the global conversation around design futures, positioning itself as a bridge between MENA designers and the international design community. The center’s involvement in Milan Design Week underscores its ongoing commitment to cultural exchange and the development of creative industries in the Arab world.
