Grimsby Town defender Edon Pruti underwent surgery following a severe injury sustained during Saturday’s League Two match against Northampton Town. The 24-year-old sustained a double leg fracture after a tackle on Northampton’s right-back Joe Wormleighton in the 61st minute, which prompted the referee to issue a straight red card.
Pruti was immediately stretchered off the pitch and taken to hospital for treatment. The club later confirmed that the operation to repair the fractures was successful, with surgeons inserting a metal rod to stabilize his leg.
The incident occurred during a match that ended in a 2-0 defeat for Grimsby at home. The injury has cast uncertainty over Pruti’s near-term availability as he begins the recovery process following the surgery.
