Blue Star SC secured a 2-1 victory over Defenders FC in a Sri Lanka Super League match held at Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo on Saturday. Mohamed Izaz was the decisive figure for Blue Star, scoring both goals and earning the Player of the Match honors.
Izaz opened the scoring in the 30th minute, giving Blue Star a 1-0 lead going into halftime. After the break, he doubled the advantage in the 56th minute, putting his team in a strong position. Defenders responded quickly when forward Soundharaj Aravinjraj reduced the deficit in the 61st minute, setting up a tense final half-hour.
Despite Defenders’ efforts to find an equalizer, Blue Star maintained their composure and held on to their narrow lead until the final whistle. The victory marked an important boost for Blue Star, who climbed to sixth place in the standings with 10 points from eight games, including three wins, one draw, and four losses. The team has scored 13 goals and conceded 18 so far this season.
Defenders remain in ninth place with four points from eight matches, having achieved one win and one draw, along with six defeats. The result underscores the challenges Defenders face as they continue to seek better form in the ongoing Super League campaign.
