Derby County has strengthened its defensive line by signing experienced defender Jack Robinson on a short-term deal. The 33-year-old center-back, who can also operate as a left-back, joined the club as a free agent after mutually terminating his contract with Birmingham City last month.
Derby, currently struggling near the bottom of the Championship standings, secured Robinson’s services in an effort to address their defensive vulnerabilities. The Rams have conceded 19 goals in their first 10 league matches and suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat against Queens Park Rangers during midweek. Manager John Eustace, under pressure following the club’s poor start to the season, is hoping Robinson’s extensive second-tier experience will bring stability to the backline.
Robinson’s career has largely been spent in the Championship, where he has amassed nearly 300 appearances. After starting his professional journey at Liverpool, he went on to feature for several clubs including Queens Park Rangers, Nottingham Forest, and Sheffield United, with whom he also played in the Premier League.
The defender has signed an initial three-month contract with Derby, although he was ineligible to play in the team’s most recent match against Stoke City. The club aims for Robinson to contribute immediately once cleared to feature on the pitch.
