Trevor Lawrence led the Jacksonville Jaguars to a 22-17 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, marking his first career win against Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow in their four meetings. Lawrence completed 18 of 22 passes for 227 yards and one touchdown, helping Jacksonville improve to 3-1 on the season.

Running back Bhayshul Tuten contributed 73 yards on 17 carries, while Chris Rodriguez Jr. added a 25-yard touchdown run for the Jaguars. Lawrence struck for a key 13-yard touchdown pass to Brian Thomas Jr. late in the second quarter to give Jacksonville a 13-3 halftime lead.

Burrow finished the game with 428 passing yards, completing 39 of 54 attempts with one touchdown and two interceptions. Wide receiver Tee Higgins caught 11 passes for 157 yards, and Chase Brown also had 11 receptions for 71 yards for Cincinnati, which fell to 2-2.

The Bengals were without star receiver Ja’Marr Chase for the second half after he exited the game with concussion symptoms. Chase was injured in the second quarter following a play in which he caught a pass near midfield and was hit in the helmet by linebacker Ventrell Miller shortly after a facemask penalty on cornerback Jarrian Jones. Chase left the field under his own power but did not return after halftime.

The game featured an unusually high number of penalties, with referee Alex Moore’s crew calling 23 accepted infractions—16 of which came in the first half—marking the highest half-season total this NFL year. These penalties negated several significant runs, including a 14-yard run by Cincinnati’s Samaje Perine and a 44-yard gain by Tuten, as well as a 3-yard touchdown run by Tuten later in the game.

Jacksonville capitalized on a pivotal turnover when safety Jourdan Lewis intercepted Burrow and returned the ball 45 yards to the Cincinnati 18-yard line, setting up the Jaguars’ opening touchdown. Cincinnati rallied in the third quarter, with Burrow hitting Mike Gesicki for a 15-yard touchdown, trimming the deficit to 16-10.

Late in the fourth quarter, the Bengals moved deep into Jacksonville territory and appeared poised to take the lead. After a 26-yard completion to Higgins brought Cincinnati to the 10-yard line, Burrow’s subsequent pass intended for Mitch Tinsley was intercepted by Jaguars linebacker Foyesade Oluokun, effectively sealing the win for Jacksonville.

Cincinnati also played without starting safety Bryan Cook due to an ankle injury, with Russ Yeast and PJ Jules filling in during the game. Despite Burrow’s strong passing yards, the Bengals were unable to overcome the Jaguars’ balanced offense and key defensive plays.
