A 26-year-old man was sentenced to four months in prison after pleading guilty to assaulting a pregnant woman by striking her abdomen with a wooden broom handle in Melaka, Malaysia. The sentence, handed down by Magistrate Uthman Abd Ghani at the Ayer Keroh court, commenced from the date of the accused's arrest on October 5.

Mohamad Ermy Ezwan Mohd Razak admitted to voluntarily causing hurt to the 36-year-old victim at a residence in Kampung Batu Berendam, Melaka Tengah, at approximately 7:45 p.m. on the same day. He faced charges under Section 324 of the Penal Code, which carries penalties including imprisonment of up to 10 years, fines, whipping, or a combination thereof.

The incident stemmed from the victim discovering flooding in a house she had rented to an employee after a tap had been left running. The flooding led to a disruption in the electricity supply. Upon noticing the issue, she contacted the tenant, referred to as "Along," who arrived accompanied by Mohamad Ermy Ezwan.

During the confrontation, the accused struck the victim in the abdomen with a wooden broom handle, resulting in bruises. The situation escalated when the victim’s husband attempted to intervene, and the accused then struck him on the hand.

The court found sufficient grounds to impose the custodial sentence on Mohamad Ermy Ezwan, reflecting the seriousness of the assault, particularly given the victim’s condition.
