Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic expressed cautious satisfaction after his team extended their unbeaten home run with a 1-1 draw against Brentford at the MKM Stadium on Tuesday evening. The result marked Hull's seventh consecutive match without a victory, but Jakirovic viewed the point as a positive step following their narrow defeat to Fulham last weekend.

Hull took the lead in the 24th minute when Oli McBurnie converted a penalty awarded after Aaron Hickley fouled Tim Iroegbunam in the box. The goal was McBurnie’s first Premier League strike in over two years. However, Jakirovic disclosed that McBurnie was carrying significant discomfort due to a rib injury sustained during the match, highlighting the physical toll on the striker.

Despite their early advantage, Hull were unable to maintain control throughout the match. Brentford levelled just after the hour mark when Dango Ouattara capitalized on a moment of absent-minded defending to find the back of the net. The visitors pressed for a late winner, with Jaidon Anthony narrowly missing with an initial effort and then forcing a save from Hull’s goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis.

Hull threatened on the counterattack as well, with Mohamed Belloumi firing over the bar and Joe Gelhardt missing a key chance in the closing stages after a cross from Mohamed Ali-Cho. Jakirovic noted that Gelhardt’s missed opportunity was a moment he regretted but ultimately deemed the draw a fair reflection of the match.

The manager praised his team’s aggressive approach, particularly in the opening half, where Hull secured many duels and controlled the early proceedings. He acknowledged some errors in passing and positioning, emphasizing the speed and risk-taking of Brentford as factors that challenged his side in the second half.

Hull’s run without a victory now extends back to their last win on August 29 against Coventry, but Jakirovic remained optimistic, citing the competitive performance and resilience shown at home. The team’s next fixtures will be crucial as they look to convert their home draws into wins and improve their standing in the Premier League.
