PHILADELPHIA — Jalen Hurts completed a 203-yard, three-touchdown performance Sunday as the Philadelphia Eagles narrowly defeated the Washington Commanders 24-22 in a closely contested game.

The pivotal moment came with 1:01 remaining when the Commanders scored a 1-yard touchdown pass from Jayden Daniels to Antonio Williams on third-and-goal, closing the gap late in the fourth quarter. Washington then attempted a two-point conversion to tie the game, opting for a shovel pass to tight end John Bates. Eagles defensive lineman Moro Ojomo quickly stopped the play, securing the victory for Philadelphia.

The win extends the Eagles’ perfect start record under head coach Nick Sirianni to 6-0 in season openers since 2021. This season also marks the debut of offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, who is working with Hurts for the first time after the quarterback’s previous four coordinators in as many seasons.

Hurts, a former Super Bowl MVP, showed early chemistry with Mannion’s offense. The new system particularly benefited tight end Dallas Goedert, who caught four passes totaling 77 yards and scored two touchdowns. One of the early highlights for the Eagles came late in the first quarter when Hurts executed a play-action pass, finding multiple open receivers.

Philadelphia controlled the game despite the late challenge from Washington, relying on balanced scoring and critical defensive stops. The Commanders rallied in the closing minutes, but their effort fell short following Ojomo’s decisive tackle on the two-point conversion attempt.

With this result, the Eagles remain the reigning NFC East champions and continue to build momentum as the season progresses.
