The Jamaat-e-Islami-led 11-party alliance is scheduled to commence a long march from Dhaka to Kushtia on Saturday, aiming to press various political and socio-economic demands. The event will begin with an inaugural rally at 7:00 a.m. at the south gate of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, where senior leaders of the alliance will address the participants before the march sets off at 8:00 a.m.
Covering a distance of approximately 410 kilometers, the procession will travel through several districts including Shariatpur, Bagerhat, Khulna, Jashore, and Jhenaidah. The march is set to conclude with a concluding rally at Shaheed Abrar Fahad Stadium in Kushtia at 8:30 p.m. Along the route, the alliance has organized roadside rallies at various points, including Naodoba in Shariatpur’s Zajira, Katakhali intersection in Bagerhat’s Fakirhat, Shibbari Mor and Fulbaria in Khulna city, Murali intersection in Jashore, and Jhenaidah bus terminal.
Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar outlined the program details during a press briefing held on Friday at the party’s central office in Dhaka’s Moghbazar. According to Porwar, around 1,500 vehicles and participants from 19 districts are expected to join the long march.
The alliance has identified seven key demands driving the demonstration: implementation of the referendum verdict; justice for the killings during the July uprising; addressing shortages of electricity, oil, gas, and fertilizer; controlling rising prices; curbing corruption, extortion, and land grabbing; improving law and order; and eliminating partisan influence within state institutions. The long march reflects growing political mobilization by opposition groups seeking to pressure the government on these issues.
