Comedian James Acaster has attracted renewed attention following his participation in the BBC reality series Celebrity Traitors, where he became the third contestant revealed as a Traitor. Known for his distinctive style and dry humor, Acaster’s role on the show has sparked interest in both his television presence and personal life.
Acaster, 41, who stands 6 feet 1 inch tall and is recognizable by his blond curls and signature attire of corduroy trousers and sweaters, has cultivated a growing fanbase. Social media users have responded enthusiastically, posting video compilations and edits celebrating his appeal. Many highlight his transformation on Celebrity Traitors, noting a move from his usual casual comedian look to a more polished appearance on screen. Several fan-made clips have amassed significant views, contributing to lively online discussions about Acaster’s persona.
His personal life has also drawn attention, particularly his past relationship with actress and comedian Louise Ford. The two were together from 2011 until 2013 before Ford began a relationship with Rowan Atkinson, known for his role as Mr. Bean. Atkinson and Ford, who met during a theatrical production, later married and have a daughter. Acaster has addressed the breakup in his stand-up work, describing it with characteristic wit and openness during his 2018 tour Cold Lasagne Hate Myself 1999.
Since then, Acaster has been linked to New Zealand comedian Rose Matafeo, creator and star of the BBC series Starstruck. Their relationship ended in 2017 and reportedly precipitated significant mental health challenges for Acaster. He has spoken publicly about experiencing suicidal thoughts during this period, detailed in both his podcasts and his 2019 book, Perfect Sound Whatever. Recognizing the need for help, Acaster sought therapy upon returning to England and has since incorporated themes of mental health and recovery into his comedy.
On Celebrity Traitors, Acaster initially expressed discomfort with deceit, stating a preference for being a “Faithful” rather than a Traitor. Despite these reservations, he was recruited as a Traitor early in the series by castmates including Richard E Grant and Maya Jama. Acaster’s experience on the show proved stressful; reports from filming indicated he became anxious enough to prompt a brief pause to allow him to regain composure. Production sources emphasized that contestant welfare remains a priority during filming.
Outside the show, Acaster maintains an active career with live stand-up performances and co-hosting the popular Off Menu podcast alongside Ed Gamble, who also hosts Celebrity Traitors’ companion show Uncloaked. With a career estimated to be worth £4.5 million, Acaster continues to engage a dedicated audience and is poised for further visibility following his television exposure.
