A distinctive windmill home in Norfolk, where singer-songwriter James Blunt spent part of his childhood, has been listed for sale at £2.65 million. The property, known as Cley Windmill, is located in the coastal village of Cley next the Sea and has a rich history dating back over 300 years.

Originally constructed in 1713 with a tower added in 1819, Cley Windmill functioned as an operational mill until 1921 before being converted into a holiday residence. The home remained in Blunt’s family for more than seven decades beginning in 1934, when Lt Col Hubert Blount inherited it. It later passed to Blunt’s father, Charles, in 1979, who transformed the property into a guesthouse during the 1980s. James Blunt reportedly spent his boarding school holidays there.

Since leaving the family in 2006, the ten-bedroom property has changed hands several times and has been used as a guesthouse and wedding venue. In 2019, Natalie and Varian Bush acquired Cley Windmill and carried out restoration and refurbishment work, preserving many original features, including exposed beams, brick and flint detailing, and original brick fireplaces.

The windmill sits on just over half an acre of gardens and offers views across the marshes toward the sea. It also has a private jetty on the nearby River Glaven. The estate is being marketed by Strutt & Parker, with agent James Robinson describing the opportunity as a chance to acquire “a truly iconic landmark.”
