English swimmer James Guy said he avoids wearing his wedding ring during races to prevent losing it in the pool. Guy, 30, who married Courtney Antrobus in August on Majorca, explained that although he trains with the ring on, he removes it before competition. He described his routine of kissing the ring before placing it in his shoe prior to racing and putting it back on afterward.

Guy, from Bury, acknowledged concerns about the ring potentially slipping off during vigorous arm movements in the water. He humorously noted his anxiety about the consequences of losing the ring both personally and in terms of pool safety, referencing the lifeguard’s possible reaction to a metal object at the pool bottom.

At the time of the remarks, Guy was preparing to compete in the heats of the men’s 400-meter freestyle event as part of his campaign for a 14th Commonwealth Games medal. His previous achievements include two gold medals in the 4x100-meter medley relay, adding to his decorated career on the international stage.
