James Milner has returned to Liverpool in a coaching capacity as he transitions from his playing career to a future in management. The 40-year-old, who retired from professional football this summer after 24 years in the sport, is currently working with youth players at Liverpool’s academy in Kirkby.

Milner’s role is informal and part-time, allowing him to gain practical coaching experience as he works toward completing his UEFA Pro Licence. Over the weekend, he was involved in training sessions with the Under-11s and is expected to extend his work to other age groups within the academy setup.

Throughout his career, Milner expressed a clear ambition to move into coaching. He holds a UEFA A Licence and has previously contributed to Liverpool’s academy coaching programs during his playing days. He also took part in coaching activities under manager Fabian Hurzeler while at Brighton & Hove Albion, furthering his development off the pitch.

This step marks an early stage in Milner’s post-playing career as he prepares for potential future roles in coaching or management within the game.
