Actor James Nesbitt has joined the cast of the upcoming BBC prequel series "Hercule," which explores the early years of the famed fictional detective Hercule Poirot. Nesbitt is among the principal actors set to appear in the six-part drama, alongside Edward Bluemel, who will portray the young Belgian detective originally made famous by David Suchet over nearly 25 years.

Set to begin filming shortly in Liverpool, the series aims to offer an intimate portrayal of Poirot’s transformation into one of the world’s most renowned sleuths. The narrative also promises a broad depiction of Britain during the interwar period, providing historical context alongside the detective’s personal story.

In addition to Nesbitt and Bluemel, the cast includes James D’Arcy, Jack Gleeson, and Tamsin Greig. The production will adapt three of Agatha Christie’s early Poirot stories, while also introducing new characters who will become pivotal in the detective’s future, including friends and a significant adversary.
