James Ward-Prowse has completed his return to Southampton, signing a contract reportedly valued at just under £1 million. The midfielder, now 31, rejoined the club where he began his career, having initially come through the youth system starting at the age of eight.

Ward-Prowse featured prominently for Southampton over the years, making 410 appearances before his transfer to West Ham United in 2023 for a reported fee of £30 million. Speaking about his return, the former captain described the experience as “special” and acknowledged the emotional intensity of rejoining the club that he represented for so long.

“It feels a bit surreal, the last couple of days have been pretty intense,” Ward-Prowse said. He added that he was delighted to once again don the club’s traditional red and white kit.

Southampton secured the midfielder’s services in what appears to be a strategic move, bringing back a highly experienced player familiar with the club’s culture and playing style. Ward-Prowse is expected to add both leadership and creative midfield options for the Saints as they continue their campaign.
