Jannik Sinner advanced to the fourth round of Wimbledon on Sunday, extending his winning streak at the tournament to ten consecutive matches. The world number one secured a straight-sets victory over American Jenson Brooksby, finishing 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 on No. 1 Court.
While Sinner faced challenges in the opening rounds, he appeared dominant from the outset in this match. The 24-year-old Italian served 13 aces and converted nearly half of his 13 break points, exhibiting strong control throughout. One highlight came when Sinner executed a striking winner around the net, prompting a loud reaction from the crowd. This energized the player, who acknowledged the support by gesturing toward the spectators as he approached his three match points.
Reflecting on the match, Sinner noted the difficulty in closing it out. “It was important. I was serving for it and I couldn’t close. I had match points but couldn’t use them. I tried to get over the finish line. The crowd helped me,” he said.
Sinner’s next opponent will be Shintaro Mochizuki, a 23-year-old qualifier ranked 114th in the world. Commenting on the upcoming fourth-round encounter, Sinner recognized Mochizuki’s capabilities on grass courts and the challenge ahead. “He’s a good player, especially on grass. Whoever is in the fourth round of a Grand Slam deserves to be there so, of course, it’s going to be a tough match,” Sinner said.
The match marks a key step for both players as they vie for a spot in Wimbledon’s quarterfinals.
