Jasper Philipsen secured his first stage victory in this year’s Tour de France on stage 17, ending a series of near misses during the opening two weeks of the race. The Belgian rider, representing Alpecin–Deceuninck, took the win in a reduced sprint finish in Voiron after a 35-rider breakaway made it to the line ahead of the peloton.

Philipsen’s teammate Mathieu van der Poel played a crucial role in the lead-out, helping Philipsen pull clear to finish several bike lengths ahead of competitors Mauro Schmid and Olav Kooij. This marked Philipsen’s 11th career Tour de France stage win and his first on this edition, having won at least one stage in each Tour since 2022.

Reflecting on his victory, Philipsen described the first part of the race as challenging. He said he was in peak physical condition but had struggled to find the right form and feeling. “The first 12 days were just horrible,” he noted, adding that the win was also a tribute to the support from his team who continued to believe in him despite his frustration.

Philipsen’s triumph moved him closer to Mads Pedersen in the points classification, narrowing the gap to just seven points and applying new pressure on the Danish rider, who had appeared to hold a strong lead in the contest.

Meanwhile, the overall classification remained unchanged following the stage. Tadej Pogacar maintained his hold on the Yellow Jersey as the race favorites allowed the early breakaway to extend their lead during the 175-kilometer route from Chambery to Voiron. Pogacar crossed the finish line more than eight minutes after the breakaway group and holds a 4-minute 32-second advantage over his closest rival, Remco Evenepoel.

Stage 17’s results preserved the existing dynamics in the main standings, with Pogacar continuing to lead comfortably and Philipsen registering a significant personal and team milestone after overcoming earlier setbacks in the race.
