Rapper Jay-Z is set to headline the halftime show at Super Bowl LXI, scheduled for February 14 at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, the National Football League announced. This marks the first time Jay-Z, whose entertainment company Roc Nation has produced the halftime show since 2020, will perform on the Super Bowl stage himself.
Roc Nation has been responsible for selecting the headliners of the event annually, but until now, Jay-Z had not taken part as a performer. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said that when the league initially partnered with Roc Nation to produce the halftime show, he requested that Jay-Z perform “whenever the moment felt right.” Goodell expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming performance, highlighting the artist’s impact on music and culture.
The announcement did not clarify whether Jay-Z would be the sole headliner or share the stage with other performers. Jay-Z has recently completed two concerts at the SoFi Stadium, which also serves as the Super Bowl venue. Those shows were part of a year-long tour commemorating the 30th anniversary of his debut album, "Reasonable Doubt."
Jay-Z, whose given name is Shawn Carter, reflected on his career progression, noting the significance of moving from the release of "Reasonable Doubt" to performing at one of the most widely viewed live events in America. He is married to singer Beyoncé, a prominent pop artist who has headlined the Super Bowl halftime show in the past.
Super Bowl halftime shows have become major cultural events, featuring prominent artists from various music genres, and Jay-Z’s appearance is anticipated to attract a global audience.
