JCB, the British construction equipment manufacturer, has appointed George Bamford as co-chairman, concluding a long-running succession process within the company’s leadership. George, the youngest son of Lord Bamford, will assume the co-chairman position from his previous role as deputy chairman starting in October.

This appointment marks the first leadership change at JCB in over five decades, signaling a significant shift for the family-owned business. Prior to George’s elevation, his older brother Jo Bamford was widely regarded as the front runner to lead the firm, but the decision ultimately favored the youngest son.

Lord Bamford, who has led the company for many years, confirmed the move amid positive developments in JCB’s global market presence. Despite challenges in expanding demand in North America, the manufacturer reported an increased worldwide market share in 2025. The company is actively investing in its operations, including substantial development at its headquarters in Staffordshire, England, and its recently established plant in Texas, United States.

“We have never been a company that stands still, and these investments will ensure JCB is well placed to seize the opportunities ahead,” Lord Bamford said in a statement, underscoring the firm’s commitment to growth and innovation.

The transition reflects JCB’s plans to maintain its standing as a prominent player in the global construction equipment sector while positioning itself for future expansion under George Bamford’s leadership.
