Jean-Luc Brunel, a French modeling agent and founder of MC2 Model Management, died by suicide in February 2022 while in custody in Paris, authorities confirmed. Brunel had been held at La Santé prison for over a year after being arrested in 2020 on charges related to the rape and trafficking of minors. The investigation was part of a broader inquiry linked to Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier accused of extensive sex trafficking activities.
Brunel, who was accused by Virginia Giuffre of sexual abuse, had denied all allegations. Giuffre also alleged that Brunel procured girls for Epstein, recruiting them with promises of modeling opportunities. MC2 Model Management, Brunel’s agency, received funding from Epstein, underscoring ties between the two men.
Despite the absence of a trial, Giuffre expressed mixed feelings about Brunel’s death. She stated that she was disappointed at not being able to hold him accountable in court but said she found some solace in having confronted him during her testimony in a French court in 2021. Giuffre emphasized that her participation helped ensure Brunel remained in detention during the judicial process.
Brunel’s death came shortly after Prince Andrew, Duke of York, settled a civil lawsuit brought by Giuffre, which alleged sexual misconduct tied to Epstein’s network. The arrest and subsequent legal proceedings against Brunel formed part of an ongoing global investigation into Epstein’s criminal enterprise and the individuals associated with it. French authorities continue to pursue other aspects of the case, aiming to bring justice for victims of sexual exploitation linked to Epstein and his associates.
