Actor and filmmaker Ben Affleck discussed the casting decisions behind his latest film, "Animals," during an interview on Monday. Initially, Affleck had hoped to cast his former spouse, Jennifer Garner, as the love interest opposite Matt Damon when production began earlier this year. The project commenced in 2024, six years after Affleck and Garner finalized their divorce.

Affleck described Garner as an "amazing" fit for the role but explained that circumstances shifted when Damon became unavailable to participate in the film. In response, Affleck took on the lead role himself. The decision led to a reconsideration of Garner's involvement. Affleck noted that both he and Garner mutually agreed it would be best not to cast her, with Garner expressing concerns about potential "baggage" associated with working together in that context.

Despite the change, Affleck emphasized that their professional relationship remains positive and that they hope to collaborate on future projects. The actor portrayed the recasting as a practical adjustment rather than a reflection of any personal discord between the former couple.
