The Jerusalem governorate issued a warning on Monday that dozens of homes in the town of Qalandia face potential demolition amid ongoing Israeli actions in the area. The warning highlighted a broader pattern involving demolitions on the grounds of lacking building permits, coupled with settlement expansions and land seizures, which officials described as efforts to alter the geographic and demographic landscape surrounding Jerusalem and undermine the Palestinian presence.
Earlier the same day, Israeli authorities demolished a two-story residential building in Qalandia, located north of Jerusalem. The structure, owned by Palestinian resident Dhib Hamad and his son, had been standing for approximately six years. Israeli officials cited the absence of a building permit as justification for the demolition, which displaced around 15 Palestinians who had been living in the home.
This demolition forms part of an extended campaign targeting Qalandia, where Israeli military and administrative measures have reportedly intensified in recent months.
Additionally, on Monday, Israeli forces detained two Palestinians from the village of Faquqa, situated northeast of Jenin. The two men, identified as Munir Mahmoud Sidqi Salah, 44, and Ahmad Abdullah Zidan, 75, were reportedly apprehended by armed settlers from a newly established settlement outpost while harvesting prickly pear fruit on their land. A child who was with the farmers was briefly detained but later released and allowed to walk home.
Barakat Al-Omari, head of the Faquqa village council, confirmed the incident, noting that the settlers held the farmers until Israeli forces arrived at the scene.
Local sources also reported that Israeli forces have issued evacuation orders to residents amid ongoing military deployments around the Qalandia refugee camp. In the Jabal Al-Salehin area, heavy bulldozers commenced extensive land leveling operations following the arrival of military reinforcements, including several vehicles and equipment.
These developments are part of an extended Israeli military operation targeting the Qalandia refugee camp, now in its 574th consecutive day. Operations reportedly include around-the-clock raids, persistent military presence, and systematic destruction and leveling of infrastructure and property belonging to camp residents.
