NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The New York Jets may have found a resolution to their kicking challenges during their 23-10 victory over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday at Nissan Stadium. Jason Sanders, who was given the opportunity to handle kicking duties for the game, converted three of his four field goal attempts, providing a mostly solid performance despite one notably poor miss.

Sanders' missed attempt came late in the first half, a 54-yard field goal that fell well short, barely achieving airborne distance and ending approximately 20 yards from the goalposts. However, he recovered effectively by successfully making two long-range field goals in the second half—a 51-yarder in the third quarter and a 52-yard kick in the fourth—that helped extend the Jets’ lead comfortably.

Head coach Aaron Glenn acknowledged Sanders’ overall contribution while noting the missed kick would be reviewed further. “He had one miss, which we’ll talk about when we get back, but overall I thought he did pretty well,” Glenn said following the game.

Sanders, who had been released during final roster cuts after competing with Cade York throughout training camp, was initially signed to the practice squad. Subsequently, Blake Grupe was also added to the roster, signaling ongoing competition for the kicking position.

Before Sunday’s game, Glenn emphasized that the contest for the Jets’ kicking job remained unresolved, with Grupe continuing to receive practice opportunities alongside long snapper Thomas Hennessy and holder Austin McNamara. “Grupe, I want to make sure that he gets a solid chance,” Glenn said. “I want to make sure that I give him the proper chance for the competition, so I want to let this thing play out.”

The Jets’ improved performance in the kicking game could address one of their critical issues early in the season, as they look to establish consistency on special teams while maintaining the momentum gained from their win over Tennessee.
