The New York Jets have agreed to a four-year contract extension with offensive lineman Joe Tippmann, securing the 25-year-old guard through the 2030 season. The deal, which reportedly carries a value between $62 million and $66.4 million depending on the source, includes approximately $31 million to $35 million in guaranteed money, with some reports indicating the guarantees are front-loaded in the first two years of the contract.

Tippmann, a second-round pick out of Wisconsin in the 2023 NFL Draft, was set to enter the final year of his rookie contract. The extension means he will remain under team control through his age-29 season. Tippmann has been a durable presence on the Jets’ offensive line, missing only one game in his first three seasons and starting 48 out of 50 games. During the 2025 season, he played primarily at right guard, stepping in after a season-ending injury to Alijah Vera-Tucker, and earlier transitioning between center and guard as team needs shifted.

The Jets’ general manager, Darren Mougey, has prioritized retaining homegrown talent since taking over in 2025, aiming to build continuity and avoid losing key players to free agency. Tippmann’s extension follows a series of similar moves, including contract renewals for wide receiver Garrett Wilson, cornerback Sauce Gardner (who was later traded), and running back Breece Hall. The team also locked in guard Josh Myers, who moved to center last season after Vera-Tucker’s injury.

With Tippmann’s deal, the Jets maintain a core of young offensive linemen, including first-round picks Olu Fashanu and Armand Membou, drafted in 2024 and 2025 respectively. This group anchors one of the NFL’s more talented and promising lines, a significant improvement after the Jets’ 3-14 finish last season. The organization currently holds 10 of 11 starting offensive players under contract through 2027, leaving quarterback as the remaining key position to secure long term. Veteran Geno Smith, acquired in March, is expected to start this season, while rookie Cade Klubnik competes for the backup role. The Jets are widely anticipated to pursue a franchise quarterback in the 2027 draft to complement their developing offensive core.

Tippmann’s versatility has been an asset, allowing the team to adapt to injuries without a steep decline in offensive line performance. His contract extension reflects the Jets’ broader strategic commitment to building a competitive unit through drafting and retaining young players, positioning themselves for sustained improvement in the coming seasons.
