The 2026-27 Jindal League season kicked off on Monday with seven matches across Oman, delivering an entertaining and competitive opening round. Al Shabab, Oman Club, and Samayil secured victories on the road, while Sohar and Ibri played to a goalless draw in the only match without goals.
At Sur Sports Complex, Al Shabab emerged with a narrow 3-2 win over Sur in a match that featured several lead changes. Sur opened the scoring in the 27th minute through Abdullah al Musharafi, who capitalized on early chances to put the home side ahead. Al Shabab equalized just before halftime when Dutch striker Pepijn Doesburg converted a penalty in stoppage time. Early in the second half, Yousuf al Shabibi gave Al Shabab the lead, but Sur fought back to level the score again through al Musharafi’s second goal around the 60-minute mark. Ultimately, the decisive goal came from Hatim al Rushdi midway through the second half, securing three points for last season’s runners-up.
In Nizwa, Samayil started their campaign with a 1-0 victory against Saham at the Nizwa Sports Complex. The only goal was scored just before halftime as Mohammed bin Salim al Muhaijri headed in a goal following a defensive lapse by Saham. Although Saham pressed for an equalizer during the second half, Samayil’s defense held firm to preserve the narrow lead.
Oman Club also celebrated a strong opening-day result, defeating Dhofar 2-0 at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher. Abdulaleem al Rawahi was the standout performer, netting both goals to give Oman Club a significant boost early in the season against one of the country’s traditionally stronger teams. With this result, Dhofar will look to regroup ahead of their next fixture.
The sole goalless draw of the round occurred in Sohar, where Sohar and Ibri played out a 0-0 stalemate at the Sohar Regional Sports Complex. Both teams had opportunities but were unable to convert chances into goals, resulting in a shared point to open their campaigns.
After the first round, six teams have recorded wins, while two have drawn, with Seeb currently leading the standings on goal difference following their 3-1 victory over Bahla. Oman Club and Al Nasr are close behind after their clean-sheet wins, while Al Shabab, Al Nahda, and Samayil also sit on three points. Sohar and Ibri each have one point from their opening fixtures. The promising start suggests a competitive season ahead in the Jindal League.
