Joe Burrow threw four touchdown passes to lead the Cincinnati Bengals to a 31-24 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Sunday in Miami Gardens, Florida. The win improved Cincinnati’s record to 3-2 and ended a two-game losing streak, while Miami dropped to 0-5.
Burrow distributed the ball to nine different receivers during the game, making full use of Miami’s young secondary. Among his scoring throws were touchdown passes to tight ends Mike Gesicki and Tanner Hudson, running back Samaje Perine, and wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase. Chase, who had been questionable after a concussion suffered last week, made a notable impact with six receptions for 77 yards, including a remarkable one-handed 45-yard touchdown catch that extended the Bengals' lead to 28-10.
Defensively, Cincinnati safety Jordan Battle played a pivotal role, intercepting Dolphins quarterback Malik Willis twice in the second quarter. Battle had mentioned before the game that he had identified a "tell" in Willis’s throwing motion, noting that Willis tends to tap the ball before releasing a pass. Willis, Miami’s notable offseason free-agent acquisition, struggled under pressure, throwing late and missing several open receivers in addition to his two interceptions and a lost fumble.
Miami staged a late rally, narrowing the gap to seven points with 45 seconds remaining when Willis scored on a one-yard touchdown run. However, the Dolphins were unable to capitalize further after kicker Riley Patterson missed the extra point, hitting the left upright. The subsequent onside kick attempt went out of bounds, allowing Cincinnati to maintain its lead and secure the win.
The Bengals’ victory highlighted both offensive efficiency and opportunistic defense, while Miami continues to seek its first win of the season despite efforts to turn around its fortunes with new personnel.
