Joe Gardner, the 21-year-old attacker recently signed by Falkirk, is currently staying in a hotel while searching for long-term accommodations following his transfer from Nottingham Forest. Gardner, one of thirteen new players recruited by manager John McGlynn ahead of the new season, views his move to the Bairns as a crucial step toward regaining a place in the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad.

Gardner, who joined Falkirk on a three-year contract, was first called up to the Irish Under-21 team 17 months ago but was sidelined by injury last season, limiting his international opportunities. He expressed optimism about rekindling his international prospects, citing the impact that playing at the Premiership level has had on fellow players’ careers. “Hopefully, if I start the season well here, I’ll be called up to Ireland 21s. That’s something I’m always looking to do,” Gardner said. He added that representing the national team remains a significant honor and highlighted the support he has received from Falkirk’s coaching staff.

Falkirk opened their season with a 2-0 loss to St Mirren last weekend, a result seen as a disappointing start by the club. Ahead of their next fixture against Motherwell, against whom Falkirk secured 10 points from a possible 12 last season, Gardner and his teammates are focused on improving their performance. McGlynn will have the addition of new loan signing Finley Barbrook available for the match.

Discussing the team’s opening game, Gardner described it as a tough, high-tempo contest with end-to-end action. He emphasized the need to build on the experience and mentioned that the squad has been preparing specifically for Motherwell’s style of play, including their pressing tactics. Versatile in his positioning, Gardner noted his willingness to play wherever the manager requires, whether as an attacking midfielder or across the forward line.

Gardner’s integration into Falkirk’s squad and his efforts to secure a stable personal base coincide with his broader ambition to re-establish himself on the international stage, illustrating his commitment to both club and country as the season unfolds.
