Former professional footballer Joey Barton will face trial next year over allegations of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, following an incident near a golf club in Huyton, Merseyside. Barton, 44, denies the charges brought against him in connection with the alleged attack on Kevin Lynch, 51.

The case, scheduled to take place at Liverpool Crown Court, was adjourned by Judge David Potter on Wednesday. The trial is now set to begin on March 8, 2027, and is expected to last approximately two weeks.

Barton, known for his football career with clubs including Manchester City, Newcastle United, and Queens Park Rangers, appeared in court on his birthday. He was remanded in custody and acknowledged the public gallery with a thumbs-up as he left the dock. A bail application hearing is scheduled for Monday.

The delay in proceedings follows standard legal processes, allowing both prosecution and defense additional time to prepare for the upcoming trial.
