Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh addressed several roster and injury updates ahead of the team’s upcoming game on Sunday, offering insights into quarterback decisions, player returns, and recent roster moves.

Harbaugh, who recently started J.J. McCarthy over Jameis Winston in the game against the Houston Texans, was asked hypothetically about selecting between two Michigan-born quarterbacks this week. He said the team would currently favor McCarthy rather than veteran Tom Brady, who retired after the 2022 season. Harbaugh expressed skepticism about Brady’s ability to return immediately if he chose to come out of retirement, emphasizing that Brady would likely not be prepared to play in the season opener despite his legendary career. Brady, now 49, finished his NFL tenure with seven Super Bowl victories and a 6-5 record against Harbaugh’s Ravens.

The coach also confirmed that cornerback Paulson Adebo is expected to be activated off injured reserve after missing five games due to a knee injury. Adebo is set to return in place of fellow cornerback Greg Newsome II, who is sidelined with a concussion. Adebo, in the second year of a three-year, $54 million contract, had lost his starting spot during training camp and saw limited action early this season. Harbaugh praised Adebo’s ability as a "legit cover corner" and expressed optimism about his health and readiness for Sunday’s contest.

Addressing the release of running back Najee Harris, who started last week’s game, Harbaugh clarified that the decision was unrelated to Harris’s comments about the team’s four-man running back rotation. Instead, the move was part of a broader roster strategy to streamline the backfield and create room for other players. Harbaugh acknowledged Harris’s effort on the field but noted the limited running opportunities available, emphasizing that the decision reflected the team’s direction rather than Harris’s performance.

In addition to Newsome’s concussion and Edmunds’s season-ending shoulder injury, the Ravens are managing several other injury concerns. Tight end Theo Johnson is doubtful to play due to a neck injury. Several players, including Adebo, right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor (calf), safeties Jevón Holland (concussion) and Tyler Nubin (neck), and offensive tackle Marcus Mbow (knee), are listed as questionable for Sunday’s game.

The Ravens will face these challenges as they prepare, balancing player health and roster adjustments ahead of the next matchup.
