John Harbaugh commenced his first training camp as head coach of the New York Giants with a display of enthusiasm and focus, signaling a new chapter following his 18-year tenure with the Baltimore Ravens. Harbaugh, 63, assumed the role after signing a five-year, $100 million contract aimed at reversing the Giants' recent fortunes.

The team’s summer preparations are taking place away from their usual East Rutherford facility due to extensive, pre-planned renovations and expansions. Instead, the Giants have relocated to The Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Upon arrival, Harbaugh took note of the prolific Giants branding around the Sports Performance Center, describing the experience as a meaningful introduction to his new environment.

On Wednesday, Harbaugh led his players through an intense 90-minute practice session. Operating within NFL Players Association guidelines for offseason activities, the initial practices are non-padded and gradually increase in length as camp progresses. Harbaugh expressed satisfaction with the team’s attitude and focus during these early stages.

“I thought we were on point. There was determination,” Harbaugh said. “Nobody was happy-go-lucky coming in. Everybody was in good spirits, but more than that, they were focused and determined to get off to a good start.” He emphasized that this mindset was evident from the players' conditioning tests in East Rutherford and continued into the practices at The Greenbrier.

Defensive end Brian Burns characterized Harbaugh’s leadership style as marked by intensity and enthusiasm. “Every time he opens his mouth,” Burns said with a smile, “That’s who he is, he can’t help it.” Burns noted that Harbaugh’s expectations are clear and straightforward: professional conduct, timely preparation, and a strong work ethic. “He’s not a man for excuses,” Burns added, “He understands stuff happens, but he ain’t trying to give too much of that.”

The first team meeting of the camp featured a unifying moment as the group sang “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” a nod to the host state of West Virginia. Harbaugh noted that many players knew the lyrics, reflecting the team’s collective spirit as they embarked on a rigorous camp schedule focused on conditioning, discipline, and rebuilding.

As the Giants look to improve their performance after consecutive losing seasons, Harbaugh’s leadership and high standards are expected to play a central role in shaping the team’s approach this fall.
